Marília Mendonça, a popular Brazilian singer and songwriter, has died after a plane crash in northwestern Brazil on Monday, according to her official website.

“María Matôz was tragically lost in the plane crash with her son,” the statement said. “She had been touring for many months.”

A picture posted by her website on Sunday showed the singer appearing to be back in the place of her life. It was taken by her husband, Jorge Rodríguez.

Rodríguez had performed with Marília at the Ariel Theater in Suape, Pernambuco State, in March, with whom he had worked for 14 years.

Rodríguez wrote the post, which appeared to be a goodbye to his wife and son, saying that the plane “died down” minutes after taking off from the Suape airport to Dalabino Airport in Tocantins State.

A total of eight people were on board the crash, according to Brazilian President Michel Temer.

It’s not yet clear who is in custody. CNN has reached out to the Federal Aviation Agency and police for more information.
